Music Video: Editing

Editing our newly shot footage of the band we are finding it hard to edit it in time to the beat with the right shots without it looking out of time or just strange. We're also finding that on a bigger screen some of the shots originally filmed were not to the quality that we would have liked. The tiled floor in Matthew's kitchen made using the dolly impossible so we had to track by hand but that didn't turn out as steady as we would have hoped either, these are all things to improve and to consider when filming in the future.

Second Shoot

Yesterday we had a second day of filming. We focused on getting all the band footage, but had time to clear up everything else too. All that's left now is to edit it and re-shoot if needs be.

First Editing Session

Here is a screen grab of our work so far. As you can see we have filmed quite a lot and have edited what we have to the beat. This weekend we are filming the band which will fill in the gaps we have.

New recruit

Hi :)
Im Hannah-mae Greenham and i have decided to join this group from another group. The reasons for leaving the other group are basically for my own good. This is because i felt that i would do better in another group. I chose this group as i liked their idea and i was previously in a group of four and they were in a group of two, so it balances out nicely. I am also good friends with the other members and i hope that i will find this group better :)

Shooting Update

For this weekend we've managed to rearrange shooting for Sunday, instead of Saturday. Hopefully we'll have enough time to get all of our footage done.

Music Video: Shooting

Last saturday we shot our first load of film. We shot all the scenes with just our actress because the band were busy recording. Despite that I think the filming was very succesful  as we got everything we wanted and all the shots we planned and left ourselves a lot of extra footage to play around with if needs be. We've asked the band to shoot next sunday but they said they are recording that week too so we're going to keep trying but this might inhibit our shooting schedule.

First Website Draft

This is our first draft of the website, based on our own ideas and research. As in our research we have kept the simplistic design and minimal colours, as well as adding social networking links. Any images we have used link clearly to the band's iconography (they are photos of the band) and there is a link to the CD artwork through the picture frame in the top left. When we have fully designed the CD cover we will try and link the fonts and colour schemes more closely as well.

The banner photo is perhaps not as good as it could be, because it doesn't quite fit in the space designed for it - but the overlap looks alright too. When he have taken our own photos of our actors we'll make a better fit, and some colours more suitable to the music video and the rest of the website.

In the final draft there will be text/items in the "news" and "tour dates" sections too.

Case Study: Mark Ronson - Music Videos

Bang Bang Bang

Uses a lot of 80's references particularly to children's tv shows that came from japan eg. power rangers (the word "rangers" appears on the synthesiser at one point). The editing style and animation are very similar to these shows with the lightning cut outs and space background. These are in line with the website and artwork for the album and the colour schemes are similar too - the video is mainly composed of bright reds and blues. In the video the performers, including Ronson himself, dress in typical 80's fashion that relates to the album cover, where Ronson is pictured in 80's glasses and hairstyle.

Case Study: Mark Ronson - Website

References his current album because of the picture of it in the middle as well as the design of the records around the side with a similar vibrant colour scheme. This continues the 80's image and the theme of collection.  The main functions on the website are video player, news, info about all the singles eg. composer, social networking links and advertising. Mark Ronson gives the fans opportunity to comment on news and other sections of the website.

Case Study: Mark Ronson - Album Covers

The Cd cover has a ripped, rough look to it with a very simple colour scheme. It is fairly dark with only three main colours, red, black, white. looks like the inspiration came from old billboards or retro-themed pop art. The connotations of this are of raw production and the construction of tracks. There is a suggestion of taking something apart (in the rips), which is what Mark Ronson has done in this album of cover versions - taken other people's songs apart and rebuilt them.

This later album has a more vibrant look, with brighter colours like pink and blue. There is an 80s feel, which does link to the retro of "Version" and the idea of different layers is present again. Like before the artwork seems to have been influenced by pop-art and old style vinyl records. Each layer, or each record, on the cover seems to represent a different genre of music, and there is a hint of modern in the bottom right, mechanical shoulder section of the cover.

Test Shot

Testing the Dolly

In our music video a few of our shots are going to use tracking. Since we haven't used this technique before we've tested out some basic shots in our college corridor.

Overall this has gone pretty well, but the first running shot was far too shaky and the second (which was originally slower and sped up) is more steady but looks unrealistic. We'll find another way of filming that sequence in our final shoot.

Webiste Research: Our webpage

All the webpages we've looked at including the Temper Trap are big and bold with a simplistic colour scheme and large font to make it eye-catching and interesting. For our page we'll probrably keep the Temper Trap's banner as it is the picture most commonly associated with them or we might make our own drawing from our design for the cd. We will definately use a bold but simplistic colour scheme to make it exciting and interesting but not too complicated for people to view.
